The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. So would board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge game development, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
