The artist has given the entirety of his £25,000 Mercury Prize cash to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

The star was given the prize on 16 October as his latest record the album was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds assisted venues that were confronting imminent closure due to difficulties caused by flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from concerts in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has said.

He is among several artists to donate his award funds to charitable organizations.

When Pulp won the award in the mid-90s for their album their work, vocalist Cocker announced that the group would give their winnings to the organization War Child.

During 2002, artist the artist shared her prize among a few charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the local youth club that developed their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," stated artist the singer. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in the city and The Croft in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
